The little boys and I have been studying about George Washington Carver this week in Social Studies, so we decided to make some things with peanuts (one of the products most used by Carver). We started last night with some homemade peanut butter and today we hope to make some peanut brittle if the weather cooperates. You know, you can't make good candy on rainy or high humidity days! Anyhow, I had to consult the old Mennonite Cookbook for my peanut brittle recipe (it's a good one).
While I had the cookbook open, I noticed something that never caught my attention previously! There at the bottom of some of the pages were little quotes or anecdotes! The first one I read said:
Boy, that's the truth (and it made me think of politics!)
The next one I read made a lot of sense, too, and seemed to speak to current issues as well:
"Worry is a lot like a rocking chair; it gives you something to do but it doesn't
get you anywhere."
Oh, the priceless wisdom and strength in simple faith in these dear women! Can't you see them in the kitchen, cooking up a storm and praying all the while?
The last one I will share with you struck a sure chord with my spirit:
The devil has to work hard for all he gets in the home of a PRAYING MOTHER!
If you are fasting on a liquid diet, you can try the fasting broth.
To make fasting broth, you simple boil potatoes, carrots, and celery together for about 15 minutes and then use the broth only.
I also recommend V-8 Splash juice or regular chicken or beef broth for liquids.
Welcome October!
