Tis the Season for Congestion; Fa la la la la Ahem Kerchoo

The season of infectious disease has hit the Big Weiss family early this year.  Both the oldest and the next to youngest have come down with some sort of respiratory/flu bug.  They have had fever, congestion, coughing, and aching.   Yesterday, the oldest was throwing up, but this morning, he said he is feeling a lot better.  Only a low grade temperature, too.  They both have slept and slept, which is probably what they have needed.

Evidently, there have been a number of boys at out church who have been sick, too.  Many of them came down with similar symptoms all at the same time.  We have a lot of boys in our church!  We first noticed this round of sickness after a recent JBQ meet.  You know, they share buzzers with people as they travel in 6 rounds, all in different rooms.  When you sit down at a buzzer, you will have opportunity to share germs with everyone else who touched that buzzer, plus the other germs from buzzers they've touched.  I think it's time to plug the hand sanitizer in all rooms.  I don't think our boys were infected there, but I don't want to think that any of our kids infected anyone else, either.   ICK!

In the Big Weiss family, when one or two get sick, it doesn't mean we all get sick.  We try to prevent illnesses by following a few tips.  A little prevention goes a long way.  It pays off to not have all 7 of us down with a bug!

Here are some common tips we should all remember as the cold and flu season approach:

- Wash your hands frequently and use hand sanitizer.

- Cover your mouth and nose when you sneeze (but then be sure to wash your hands!)

- Avoid common surfaces of transfer, such as door knobs or public telephones...even JBQ buzzers!  Be conscious that others have touched surfaces and either touch them with a tissue or be sure to sanitize your hands after contact.

-Be sure to bundle up when going out in the cold.  Reports have bounced around in the past few years, but as getting "cold" will not cause the virus or infection, your body's immune system may be sent into shock, making you more susceptible to contract a virus.

-Take your vitamins, exercise, eat healthful meals, and get plenty of rest.  Even though you can't protect yourself 100% from contracting an illness, you can help your body fight off something if you do contract something.

-Keep the house and bedding clean, especially following a sickness.  Get rid of the germs!

- Avoid contact with others who are sick.  If someone comes into work ill, try to maintain the 3 foot rule.  That goes for you, too.  If you are sick, be thoughtful of others health and avoid infecting them.  If you have a fever, you are more likely to be contagious!

MAY GOD KEEP YOU IN HEALTH AS WE APPROACH THE WINTER MONTHS AND THE HOLIDAYS!

Out thoughts and prayers are with the Blacks as they mourn the passing of their grandson on Tuesday following a long illness.   Ceremonies will be held today in memory of Chris.   Your prayers are appreciated.
