Starting a New Year

After staying up late to watch the ball drop in NYC, everyone woke up at our house late and tired. The day has seemed to drag along in like fashion!  I had to get out to the grocery store to pick up some bread, milk, etc. and the temperatures are freezing cold today.  Silly me, I decided to go to the car wash and spray off the van a bit and it was so cold... it started freezing on the van!  I've never had that happen before.  The wind is wicked, too.  It brings new meaning to the term "wind chill factor".

So, back to New Years...
We rang in the new year with Pete's parents... like we always do.  I was so tired I can barely recall conversations, but I know it was fun.  We reminisced about  New Years Eve.  One of the most memorable was 2000 when we were all wondering what would happen with Y2K.  Isn't it funny to look back on?  What was the big deal?   We were at the radio station transmitter that year.  My father-in-law had to oversee things in case the power went off or computer's crashed.   Of course, nothing happened... the electricity didn't even go out.  If it had, however, the big generator would have kicked on and we would have had power, heat, and at least the radio to listen to.  LOL

Last night, we stayed home, got in our PJ's, bunked out in front of the TV and waited for the East Coast to ring in the New Year.  I thought once that happened at 11, I would go on to bed.  No way!  I was up past 1am.  Maybe it was the food???  We had some cheese ball, some sparkling cider, little smokies, and home made fudge.
Pete was on duty, but made it home for a bite to eat and we even exchanged a New Year's kiss at the stroke of midnight.

So, that was our New Year's in a nutshell.

Tomorrow, we go back to school and to our normal routine.  We're looking forward to many things this year, but I have to admit... it's hard to get back on the "running wheel" (you know- like the little hamsters run on).  One thing I will miss for sure is the extra time I was able to spend just holding, playing, and talking to the baby.  He had some firsts at Christmas... first cereal, first time in the exersaucer, and first time in the baby backpack.  All of those things will make everyday life a little better for him and us.   He's growing like a weed.  I'm glad we had the time off to stop and soak in his precious little life.

Hope you have a great New Year's Day!  Blessings!
