Inauguration Day 2009

"While the storm clouds gather far across the sea,
Let us swear allegiance to a land that's free,
Let us all be grateful for a land so fair,
As we raise our voices in a solemn prayer. "

God Bless America,
Land that I love.
Stand beside her, and guide her
Through the night with a light from above.
From the mountains, to the prairies,
To the oceans, white with foam
God bless America, My home sweet home.

(God Bless America - Irving Berlin, 193

Today, as we swear into office the 44th President of the United States, the world waits in awe and wonder.  Have you ever seen an inauguration with such pomp, splendor, and celebration?  This transformation will be an historic event on many, many levels.  Let us not forget to pray for our cities, our nation...and the world.   We live in an hour where many are looking for a Savior, but there is only one Jesus!  God is directly involved in the affairs of men and we would be wise to remember that the governments of the world are still on God's shoulders.

If you caught my blog yesterday, you know that it is my prayer for this administration to support, revere, and respect LIFE.  CatholicVote came out with a new commercial that is supposed to play today during the inauguration that expresses the potential that each life holds.  It's worth the 41 seconds it takes to watch it.  Cut and paste the following address to your browser:

And, if you would like to "do" something significant during this inauguration day to speak for life, go to the following FRC address and sign the petition!  Thanks to friend, Aaron, for sending it my way this morning!  (Again, cut and paste)

I will end today with the prayer from Joe Wright:

The Kansas Senate Prayer
Heavenly Father, we come before you today to ask Your forgiveness and to seek Your direction and guidance. We know Your Word says, "Woe on those who call evil good," but that's exactly what we have done. We have lost our spiritual equilibrium and reversed our values. We confess that:
We have ridiculed the absolute truth of Your Word and called it pluralism. We have worshipped other gods and called it multiculturalism. We have endorsed perversion and called it an alternative lifestyle. We have exploited the poor and called it the lottery. We have neglected the needy and called it self-preservation. We have rewarded laziness and called it welfare. We have killed our unborn children and called it a choice. We have shot abortionists and called it justifiable.
We have neglected to discipline our children and called it building self-esteem. We have abused power and called it political savvy. We have coveted our neighbor's possessions and called it ambition. We have polluted the air with profanity and pornography and called it freedom of expression.
We have ridiculed the time-honored values of our forefathers and called it enlightenment.

Search us, O God, and know our hearts today; cleanse us from every sin and set us free. Guide and bless these men and women who have been sent to direct us to the center of Your will. I ask it in the name of Your Son, the living Savior, Christ. Amen.
