In Sickness and in Health

Remember that part in wedding vows where you declare to love, honor, and cherish in sickness and in health?  I'm beginning to think that it's included for the sake of the children you would possibly bear later in the marriage and not only the spouse.

If there's one thing that parents face a lot of...it's sickness in their children.  Did you know that it's common for most kids to have some kind of sickness every six weeks?  I wouldn't have believed it because my kids stay relatively healthy, but according to a booklet produced by my pediatrician's office, those ARE the facts.  WOW!  Have you noticed, too, that there seem to be a lot more strains of illnesses?  Perhaps with the overuse of antibiotics, strange weather patterns, and super-bugs, we may be in for a lot more sickness in the years to come!

Praise God, however, that HE is the healer.  We don't need to be anxious, fearful, or overwhelmed because we can trust in the one who is Jehovah Rapha.

"And the LORD will take away from you all sickness."  Deuteronomy 7:15

"So you shall serve the Lord your God, and He will bless your bread and your water.  And I will take sickness away from the midst of you."  Exodus 23:25

"...by His stripes we are healed."  Isaiah 53:5

If you've been following my blogs recently, you know that my BIG family has been battling BIG germs!!!

It all started two weeks ago with Pink Eye, which most of us had.  For Zeke, it turned into a scary situation as his face began to swell drastically in a matter of a few hours.    He was diagnosed with periorbital cellulitis.  Antibiotics kicked that, as well as the croup he developed "underneath" the pink eye/cellulitis.  Evidently, you can have a bacterial illness and several viruses going on at the same time in your body!   Then he contracted Fifths Disease, which some of the kids are now experiencing.   As of last night, Levi and Celeste started running fevers- more than likely the Fifths.  It has left them feeling quite miserable and tired.  On the upside, 4/6 kids seem to be well now.  Zeke is much better.    Here he is last night holding his Pine Wood Derby car in one hand and a brownie in the other.  Don't you love the chocolate grin???

BTW- My next post will be about the Pine Wood Derby this past weekend!

There are some good things that come from having sick kids...you get to pamper and take care of them and they like it (no matter how old they are)...the house is a little quieter...you have a reason to super clean... and life even seems to slow down a little bit.

We can still be thankful that even with illnesses, there is nothing life threatening to our children and that God is STILL God... and He's still good.

Take care of you and yours and we'll see you again soon!
