First Day of Vacation

Today marked our first day of Christmas vacation!   The kids and I have been looking forward to this much needed break from the daily routine.  I warned them, however, if I hear "we don't have anything to do" too often, I WILL find something for them to do.  So far, no problems to speak of.

Do you ever wonder why it seems that when vacation is over, we need a vacation from our vacation?  Today made me realize that if I keep up this pace, I won't feel like it's been a break at all.  I'm my own worst enemy, though...I find it hard to sit and do nothing, even when I know I shouldn't.    But, I don't plan on every day being like today.  Some days are simply busier than others.

Our goal today was to bake a few sugar cookie cut-outs and decorate them.  We accomplished this goal, but not completely until after 6pm.  The dough was made this morning, but the rest was finished in increments.  A few of us had doctor appointments, which cut into our mid-day activities and forced us to put off the baking until later.  All 5 of the kids decorated for almost 2 hours and had a blast!

Here's what we came up with about mid-way:

HERE'S WHAT I OBSERVED ABOUT THE KIDS AS THEY DECORATED:

How many cinnamon candies can a cookie hold at one time?  - Zeke

If I keep putting blue icing on my cookie in a big pile, will it eventually flatten out? - Levi

Did you know if you put black icing on top of white icing and mix them together- it looks purple?- Moses

I would rather turn the Christmas tree cut-outs into KC Chiefs Logos!  (which he did)- Titus

Since I put icing on it, it means I should eat it, right???  - Zeke

I'm still working on the blue icing - Levi

Why can't I lick the edges of my cookie to get the icing off when it's messy? - Levi

I'd rather think of creative ways to turn my cookies into a statement.  I made some lips, a light bulb, a big white tooth, a mustache, and beard!- I also tore the top off of a candy cane cookie to look like a "C" for my name.  Pretty clever, huh? - Celeste

They were very fun to watch and everyone enjoyed the day.  Maybe tomorrow we can sit back and enjoy the crumbs of our labor... that is if there are any cookies left!   As for now, I'm ready to finish my day in the Word, do some praying, and hit the hay.

UPDATE:  Nephew, Tim Jr., will be having surgery on his hand to correct the break that occurred on Friday in homeroom.  Please remember him in your prayers as he undergoes surgery and faces recovery.

Blessings, friends.  See you tomorrow!
