Everyone Has a Right to Life

"We're saving lives here.  It may be someone else's or
it may be your own."

"Because everyone has a right to a full, long life"

Were these the words spoken at a pro-life rally?  No.  These comments/slogans were used at a very popular walk event for disease awareness.   They really impacted me.   I am not demeaning the importance of this "cause" or others like it, I am just drawing an obvious parallel that some lives in this country seem to be more valuable than others.  Many of the same women who feel they are entitled to a full, long life are the same women who insist that they have the right to end the life of an unborn baby.    Shouldn't all life... aged, middle aged, young, infant, and unborn be equally respected, protected, and fought for?

If faced with a choice of life or death in the face of disease or threat, most people choose life.  Even my elderly grandmother who has lived a full life has said to me, "I don't want to die."    I believe this desire is ingrained in us by the Creator Himself.  God is the author of life and is life.  He engrafted life into our design.  The desire to live may never leave us, but yet the choice is death is has been forced upon over 50 million babies through abortion.  Those numbers also reflect the women who have been involved in abortions - many of which are suffering Post Traumatic Abortion Syndrome and don't know how to cope with the "choice" that they've made.  Yes, abortion effects everyone involved- even the dads!

Yesterday marked the March for Life in Washington D.C. and the 36th anniversary of Roe vs. Wade.  An estimated 200,000 marchers for pro-life prayerfully walked a path to the US Supreme court despite the cold weather.  Why?  Because the unborn need a voice and we must be that voice.

Let's use our voices this morning not only to take a firm position on life, but to take time to pray.

Lord,
Thank you for the gift of life.  Any mother who has given birth to a child knows the wonder and joy of carrying life within her womb.  It's hard to imagine that 4000 babies are being aborted a day and not have that effect us.  Open our eyes and hearts to the silent cries of those who cannot speak for themselves.  There is no greater right that a person has than to life.  We ask that You would Divinely intervene in this situation.  Show your mighty arm, Oh Lord.  Give us a voice with government officials.  Soften their hearts and remove the scales from their eyes.  Advance technology and give us other creative ways through science to prove that life is life from the moment it begins.  If there is a joining of cells and they are multiplying and growing... life has begun.
Touch the women, men, and families that have been harmed by the devastation of abortion.  Help them to find You in their most pressing hour.  Send those who can minster to their needs - who can demonstrate love and convey that You are a God of compassion, mercy, grace, and forgiveness.  Assist them in their struggle to forgive themselves.  In Your name, Amen.

"Abortion is advocated only by persons who have themselves been born.”- Ronald Reagan

“These concerns (for orphan children in India and elsewhere in the world) are very good, but often these same people are not concerned with the millions that are killed by the deliberate decision of their own mothers. And this is what is the greatest destroyer of peace today, Abortion...For the pregnant women who don't want their children, give them to me.” - Mother Teresa of Calcutta
