Celebrating a First Christmas

Celebrating Christmas with a new baby in the house is wonderful!  It fills the heart with warm memories and brings an extra element of anticipation.  It's fun to hang up baby's stocking, shop for gifts, enjoy holiday events and traditions, and simply watch him as he explores everything for the first time.  His first Christmas!

When I was thinking about Shad this morning, my thoughts drifted to a starry night in Bethlehem when the Savior of the world was born.   I found an appreciation for Mary and her plight when delivering baby Jesus.   I can't begin to imagine what she went through that night, nor do I envy her having to stand and watch as her son was crucified (33 years later) for all mankind to save us from our sins.    What a thought.  I think as mothers, our top priorities are to protect, nurture, and raise our children in the fear and admonition of the Lord.   We don't want anything to happen to our children especially harm.
We feel that way because of our deep love for our child.  We rarely look upon Christmas with a parent's eyes.

When we look at the manger scene and reflect what Christmas actually means to the world, we see the complete life of Christ, not just the babe lying in a manger.  That's where a lot of people go awry.  When they think of Jesus, they think of Him as the baby in the manger.
As parents, we hope and dream for our children and imagine what they will be like as they mature into adulthood.  Likewise, we must consider the whole life of Christ;  His virgin birth, His sinless life, His atoning death, His conquering of death, hell, and the grave, His resurrection, His ascension to the right hand of the Father, and His soon return!

Now think... what if that were MY child called to carry the sins of the world on his shoulders.  Whew!

"For God so loved the world that He gave His one and only Son that whoever believes in Him would not perish, but have everlasting life!"  John 3:16

We ALL have something to celebrate and it all started with a baby!

Today our precious little Shad turns 14 weeks old.  Here he is...

He's rolling from front to back now.  He also enjoys playing with some toys we
got out of the attic earlier this week.  He's grabbing onto things and sticking
things in his mouth.  He especially likes light-up toys that make music.

Blessings today friends.  Thanks for stopping by for a visit.
