Expectant Prayers ®

Are You Shaking?

As soon as I got to the computer this morning, I checked my e-mails and found an amazing note from my sister, who lives in Indiana.  Apparently during the early hours of the morning, they experienced an earthquake!  Here's briefly what she said about it:

"We had an earthquake that woke us up this morning at 5:37.  It was a 5.4 earthquake, and shook the house, and our beds, and rattled everything in the house."

The epicenter was not all that far away from where they live.  You can read more about her account at  http://www.ahoosierfamily06.blogspot.com

As soon as I read her message, my mind went to Matthew 24 - "There will be earthquakes in various places."  Apparently that passage spoke to her too because when I switched over to read her blog, there it was!

For those of you who know me, Matthew 24 is one of my favorite passages in the Bible because Jesus is warning us about what will take place in the end times.  Go read the entire chapter today and see if it doesn't speak to your spirit.   It's one that we ALL need to know more about.

It's easy to shrug off and dismiss signs when we see them.  We can explain a lot of things away, justify why an earthquake doesn't mean that the Lord's return is near, but the reality of it all is that He is coming SOON!  Jesus has warned us, but are we listening?

What about wide spread deception?  False spiritual leaders and doctrines?  Sudden and unexplainable rises in power in politics and religion?  What about signs in the heavens?  What about the church losing it's luster and fire in this present time?  Wars and rumors of wars?  Famines and pestilences?

There has never been an hour in the church like we live in today, yet more people live as if He isn't coming than those who do.

We have soon forgotten events that have earmarked our generation, such as September 11th.  I think about Sept. 11 almost everyday because I had a son born that morning.  I wrote a little book on what the Lord revealed to me through that situation and likened it to birth; as Matthew 24 tells us that when we see events unfold it is the beginning of birth pains.  Do you see how quickly our churches went to being "filled" with seekers and those wanting to make their lives right with the Lord to the other extreme of being "dead" and empty?  I cringe every time I hear of congregations dwindling down to record lows in attendance and churches closing.  How quickly we forget, roll over, and fall back to sleep!

The Word tells us that anything that can be shaken will be shaken.

When I think of the word "shaken" or "shaking", I think about those who shake in fear or with trembling.  Also I think about waking someone up out of sleep; if they can't awaken to your voice, then you go over and shake them gently.

Today, we need to realize, however, that God is a God of love and mercy, as well as just.  This shaking that we are experiencing is for our good if we will allow Him to work in our spirits.  We don't need to be afraid of what is happening and tremble at the days to come.

Look at these passages in the Bible when there was a great shaking and see what God did:

Acts 4:31 - "After they prayed, the place where they were meeting was shaken. And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and spoke the word of God boldly."

That same Spirit and power are at work in us today!

Acts 16:26 - Suddenly there was such a violent earthquake that the foundations of the prison were shaken. At once all the prison doors flew open, and every body's chains came loose."

Whatever binds us can be broken.

And who can forget Matthew 27:51, "And, behold, the veil of the temple was rent in twain from the top to the bottom; and the earth did quake, and the rocks rent;"

Jesus paid the ultimate price for us, giving us new life with Him!

Also, Hebrews 12:28 tells us, " Therefore, since we are receiving a kingdom that cannot be shaken, let us be thankful, and so worship God acceptably with reverence and awe."

God's Kingdom and what He deposits in our lives can never be shaken- no matter what!

Don't let your faith be shaken today!  Be encouraged to run the race even harder!

"I know the Lord is always with me.  I will not be shaken, for He is right beside me."  Psalm 16:8

I hope we all are shaken up a bit today and take this event to heart!  Look up, for our redemption draweth nigh!
